Comments: Locating fully struck examples of this date will be difficult. The 1850, 1851 and 1852 New Orleans dates saw extensive circulation due to their lower silver content versus comparable Mexican coinage circulating in that time frame. Only one obverse die has been identified to date, paired with two reverse dies. One must question the historically stated mintage of 430,000 against the documentation of a single obverse die. The relatively high mintage of 430,000 suggests that more than one obverse die could have been employed. To date, neither late die state examples of Obverse 1 or a second obverse die have been located. Value As A Date (Coin World Trends/CoinValues)
