Comments: 1863 San Francisco dimes are notorious for having weakly struck obverses, especially at STATES OF within the legend. Locating fully struck examples will take considerable effort.

On some examples, the reverse die shows faint die clashing that is visible to the left of the wreath oak leaves and to the right of left wreath maple leaves. The die clashing is only seen on the reverse and is minor. Therefore it was decided to mention this fact rather than providing a separate listing for a clashed die state.
