Comments: This obverse is typically seen with varying degrees of circular die cracks. I have mapped the die cracks on the plate coin since they are representative of a slightly later die state obverse die. A die crack starts at the base above the 2 digit and proceeds right through the foot then into the denticles below AMERIC(A). This die crack also proceeds left through the top of the 187 digits. Another die crack starts at the flag of the 1 digit and encircles the left side of the obverse die as shown above.

All 1872-S dime comes with a Small Block S mintmark on the reverse.
