Civil War Era Issue, Miniscule Mintage, Attractive Orange-Gold Coloring, CAC Approval. Mintage for Indian Princess $3 gold pieces began high during 1854 and quickly shrank. By the early 1860s, mintages were in the 5,000-6,000 range. This 1863 Civil War era gold $3 piece has a mintage of 5,000 and is presently scarce. Many $3 gold pieces were used for jewelry production during the Victorian Period leaving few choice and unmolested examples for present day collectors. CAC has approved all of thirty-three pieces for the 1863 date with the majority being circulated examples at the AU55/AU58 level. Specimens at these grade levels come at a strong price. GFRC is thrilled to be offering this PCGS AU53 CAC survivor with orange-gold patina with "steely" or partially mirrored fields. This piece has elevated wire rims on both sides. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 holder with CAC approval. An important offering for the advanced collector. December 1969
