Misplaced Digit on Denticles, Steely Fields, Gray Patina, Residual Luster, Woodbridge Collection. A popular Liberty Seated quarter die variety with errant or "misplaced" 1 digit on the denticles direct below the 1 digit punch. Included in the Top 25 Varieties set as published by Greg Johnson. The 1850 Philadelphia date is also challenging in higher circulated grades given a mintage of 190,800 with a portion being melted during the silver arbitrage era that took place from 1850 until 1853 planchet silver weight reduction. The Woodbridge Collection is back with a near-choice original offering. Steely surfaces are covered with a natural gray patina. Strike is essentially complete with all obverse stars having connected central. The eagle's left facing leg has lacks complete definition as is so typical for the series. Several ancient and toned over marks in the obverse field hold this offering from a Choice quality rating. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.0 (1998-2002) holder. December 1969
