An underrated San Francisco date with mintage of 260,000 and low survival rate. 1868-S are consistently difficult to locate in old grades, whether circulated or Mint State. PCGS population reports shows only seven at VF25 and another seven at VF30. CAC population in all grades is a stark twelve pieces with only two approved at the VF25 grade. This example features natural light gray patina on both sides. Strike is well executed. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 holder with CAC approval.
