Super Originality, Peripheral Orange-Gold Toning, Well Struck. The key to purchasing early Capped Bust halves is finding an optimum balance between strict originality and strike. Many examples have been "enhanced" over the years with spectacular colors and eye appeal that is not original. Otherscome with weak center obverse strikes or poorly defined left facing wing. During a recent buying session, this super original 1809 O-106 half was located. Center rose-gray and peripheral orange-gold decorate the obverse. The reverse features intermixed orange-gold and rose surrounding by a thin outer ring of aquamarine. This piece's strict originality was unquestionable. Residual luster has a frosty/steely texture from fields with heavy metal flow lines. Overall strike, while not hammered, is better than most seen. A lovely offering for the collector seeking a quality early date strike. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-204) holder with CAC approval. December 1969
