Very Scarce Civil War date, Crusty Original, Choice Surfaces, Folded Paper Toning, New England Collection. Like other Civil War years, Philadelphia strikes did not circulate in the eastern United States. Nearly all ended up being used as overseas commerce payment and were exported. As a result, this date is very scarce in circulated grades. This survivor is unquestionably original with thick crusty obverse patina along with lighter shades on the reverse. The reverse exhibit folded paper toning outline on the upper left quadrant. Fields are free of abrasions other than a contact mark on the reverse below the E in STATES. This New England Collection example is thoroughly wholesome and an important opportunity for those attempting a complete set of Liberty Seated dollar on a reasonable budget. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-2004) holder. December 1969
