$850 		Choice Original, Perfect for Grade, Saw Mill Run Collection "Duplicates" Sale. The 1855-S is overlooked in favor of later San Francisco issues, but is nonetheless a challenging issue. This is a perfect coin for the grade, evenly toned with shades of grey in the protected areas, lighter fields, and cream-colored central figures. The only mark of note is a defect on star 7 that blends with the surrounding area. The rarity of an 1855-S quarter with this level of quality is remarkable - indeed, CAC has certified a mere 14 pieces in all grades combined. Briggs noticed this as well, stating that most pieces have issues of one sort or another, and that any problem-free example is worth a premium over the published price guides.
