Gem Original, Tenafly Collection. The 1866-S quarter represents another low-mintage emission, with just 28,000 pieces. Western silver production was not fully ramped up at this time, and the San Francisco Mint was more engaged with the production of gold coinage. This is a gem example for the grade with stellar surfaces for a G-6 piece. The only mark of note is a thin diagonal line across the figure of Liberty, which is not at all evident without tilting the coin. The "Tenafly toning" is again evident, revealing gray surfaces and lighter devices, with the reverse exhibiting deeper shading overall. The lower reverse rim is not full, a typical situation for this issue as noted by Briggs. The CAC population is a mere 12 pieces. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder with CAC approval.
