Choice Original, Springfield Collection.. Rich shades of gold, lilac, and blue-green cover both sides, and the reflective surfaces are pleasing to view under a light. The prooflike luster, a product of polished dies, is typical for this scarce issue. Weakness in the reverse shield confirms the all-important business strike attribution. CAC notes just 27 pieces in all grades, while the proof population is 49 coins. The 1866 quarter is among the most challenging pieces in the Philadelphia Liberty Seated series, along with the 1853 No Arrows, 1867, and 1886 issues. Briggs 1-A, the only die pair for circulation strikes. The CAC guide value is $3,220. Ex. Bruce Burnham collection (DLRC, July 2003). Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder with CAC approval.
