$1375 		Near-Gem, Hoosier AU58 Collection Sale. The 1886 quarter mintage, 5,000 pieces, is the lowest in the late-date quarter series from 1879 to 1889. The PCGS and NGC population data is consistent, with both reporting the 1886 issue as the least frequently seen. This moderately shaded example exhibits pleasing blue rim toning, surrounding gray-pink centers. Briggs 1-A, the business strike die pair, which is frequently confused with proofs of this year. This piece has a level date, while the proofs exhibit a slight upward slope. On the reverse, the berry at the left is separated from the stem, while firmly attached on proof examples.
