One of the key dates among the Philadelphia Seated halves, this issue was struck to the extent of just over 200,000 pieces, and even worn examples are highly valued. This deeply hammered example exhibits a rose and gray-shaded obverse, while the reverse reveals scattered navy patina in the legend and protected areas. The strike is exquisitely executed, with individual claw joints sharp and distinct. This piece resides in a PCGS Gen 3.1 old green holder (1993-1998), and the overall look is superior to what would pass for an MS60 today. Frosty luster with swirling cartwheels, combined with overall eye appeal, is more consistent with an MS61 or MS62 grade. WB-5, with the first 1 repunched and a die clash in the reverse shield.
