$2250 		Arrows & Rays Type, Near-Choice Original, Cumberland County Collection. Brilliant, frosty luster and swirling cartwheels blanket both sides, which are largely untoned apart from a gold band across the lower part of the eagle. Fields host a few hairlines, but the eye is more drawn to the interesting die cracks in the stars and rays. Mintage of the 1853 half dollars was substantial, creating ample opportunity for distinct die characteristics to emerge. WB-8, with a die crack between star 12 and the rim. Stars are crisply defined with rich texture, while the left claw joints are starting to join together. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.5 (2011-2013) holder. December 1969
