$550 		Ultimate #294 WB-4, Choice Original, Newtown Collection. Walnut and grey fields lead toward charcoal shaded rims, all surrounding lighter central figures. Steely luster remains in protected areas. WB-4, with a widely spaced mintmark punched low, in addition to a die crack that connects the middle leaf to the rim. Well struck, with star centers evident, and softness in the eagle claws. Seated half dollar production was bountiful in the mid-1870s, but only a small portion of these pieces bear the coveted CC mintmark. The 1877-CC is one of the more available pieces in this Carson City series, usually trading at a reasonable price point. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder. December 1969
