Series Key Date, Steely Fields, Gray with Golden Highlights, Choice Surfaces, Old Cedar Collection. Price Reduction. The unquestionable key date of the Capped Bust half dollar series and a must fill hole for those attempting a complete date set. The entire mintage of 47,150 was released on January 10, 1816. A single die pair with added 5 date punch on leftover 1812 obverse die was employed to strike the entire mintage. The War of 1812 caused considerable hardships on the United States eastern seaboard and a disruption of silver bullion supply to the Philadelphia mint during 1815. This choice survivor has been well preserved and will easily fit into sets up through the AU level. Natural coin gray patina covers both sides with the obverse skin being a bit more dense or darker. Golden shades are seen on the wear points. Under a bright light, the fields showcase their steely nature and undisturbed beauty. A review of CoinFacts records at the VF grade level and careful examination of images will convince you that this Old Cedar Collection specimen is truly special and worthy of addition. Lay-a-ways are available for those who might need the 60 day payment plan, though the no return policy is in effect as this piece should sell quickly. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder.
