$230 		Scarce Date, Bold Strike, Unabraded Surfaces, Twin Lakes Collection. Production of the 3 cent nickel denomination began to wane in the mid 1870s. By 1876, mintage set a new series low at 162,000 struck. Survivors are scarce with a combination of low PCGS certified populations and few auction records. The PCGS Price Guide for this date is irrelevant at the AU grades. Auctions records are consistently much higher than the guide. This 1876 offering, from the Twin Lakes Collection, is near choice with bold strike and unabraded surfaces. Both sides feature partial wire rims. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.5 (2011-2013) holder.
