 Choice $795 Quadrupled Second 8, Residual Frosted Luster, Choice Surfaces, Newtown Collection. An important 1858-O die variety with at least quadrupled punching of the second 8 digit. Remnants of prior punches are seen in the upper loop, between the based and top loop, and two additional punches to the right of the digit. Were late hours and/or alcohol a factor here? Not only is the variety exciting, but the host piece is fully choice. Though certified as an EF45, this half dollar strike presents substantial amounts of mint frost and resulting luster. Surfaces are 100% original with a light natural gray patina. Worthy of a CAC submission by the new owner as this piece has many attributes of those pieces graded AU50. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder.
