$1650 		Transitional With Drapery Design, Small O, Steely Luster, Cracked Reverse. An important Briggs 2-C die pairing with Small "O' reverse. Briggs postulates that, "Pieces of the 2-C late die states appear to have been struck in 1841. Many 2-C die state coins found in the New Orleans.". Regardless of when this piece was struck, the obverse die is fresh and produced steely fields that border on proof like characteristics with the reverse "mirrors" being a bit more subdued. Strike is complete though delicate for the With Drapery type. Toning is a light grayish-gold. Surfaces are pristine and free of abrasions. PCGS has graded only 13 at the AU58 level with the last auction record dating back to 2015. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 holder and worthy of serious consideration. December 1969
