$625 		Choice Original, Ebony and Gray Patina. An exciting and strictly original example of the Valentine 1 Large O variety. A gray base patina covered the entire dime along with ebony coloring surrounding the obverse stars/date and reverse legend. This piece is well struck with bold hair curls and star centrils along with detailed leaves in the wreath. Greer discusses this variety in the March 1990 Gobrecht Journal and indicates the variety can be located with and without a bisecting reverse die crack. The offered example is in an earlier die state without any die cracks. Housed in old PCGS holder with blue label and standard ring insert. Please give this choice example some consideration if investigating 1840 No Drapery half dime varieties struck at the New Orleans mint. December 1969
