$4881 		Choice Original, Newtown Collection.. Coin grey surfaces host scattered dirt, with additional goldish-olive patina evident on both sides. This piece exhibits what some call the "CAC look," meaning a piece with moderate crust than has somehow escaped the "curators" for a long period of time. Close inspection of the hairline-free fields of this example is recommended, and frequent auction lot viewing of CAC-approved pieces will further train the eye. WB-1, the only variety for this issue. CAC notes 32 pieces in all grades. Remarkably, only 11 of these are finer than the present example. The 1878-CC issue is a key in the Seated half series, and CAC-approved examples are few and far between. The CAC guide value is $4,200. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.3 (2004) holder with CAC approval.
