Choice $985 Popular New Orleans Date, Natural Surfaces, Frosted Luster, Rose-Gold Patina, Massachusetts Collection. The Massachusetts Collection is releasing a lovely 1852-O dime for conisderation. This is a popular date with a limited mintage of 430,000. 1852 brought the final year of silver arbitrage whereby New Orleans struck silver coinage was exported to Europe and melted. The bullion was subsequently returned to America at a profit. The 1852-O quarter and half dollar dates are much scarcer than their mintages would suggest while a portion of the dime production was probably also involved. The surfaces on this survivor are strictly original with granulat mint frost surrounding the devices. Bright light viewing exposes frosted luster that is more concentrated on the obverse. Both sides are toned rose-gold with deeper shades throughout the reverse. Strike is typical for the issue. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2022) holder.
