 Gem $15000 Gem Original, Newtown Collection. Steely luster imparts active cartwheels across the surfaces of this Large Date, No Stars piece. A moderate spray of olive and charcoal patina covers both sides, highlighted by considerable flash that is thoroughly consistent with the MS66 CAC designation. The 1837 F-101c is coin #1 on the Top-100 list and exhibits heavy die clashing with elevated obverse die cracks. While not as arresting as the 1839 F-105c "Pie," the die deterioration is advanced and easily apparent without a glass. The dies are slightly rotated as expected for all later die states of the F-101 die pair. The CAC census notes two examples in MS66, with only a pair of pieces higher, both at MS67. The guide value is $15,000. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder with CAC approval.
