 Gem $4250 Gem Original, Newtown Collection. Brilliant, frosted luster booms from the largely untoned surfaces of this Legend Obverse example. Swirling cartwheels highlight a few flecks of charcoal patina, and the overall flash is easily consistent with the near-Superb Gem technical grade. F-103, with the date and ONE DIME lightly impressed. CAC notes four pieces at MS66 with none higher. The introduction of new hubs beginning in 1859 solved some striking issues and created others. The bow knot is now nicely detailed, but the stalk to the upper left is soft. Regardless, the exceptional luster is easily the first focal point of this appealing Philadelphia piece. The CAC price guide value is $3,000. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder with CAC approval.
