Consignor Price Reduction. 1878 San Francisco strikes amounted to 140,000 pieces but with a low survival rate that leaves few examples for present day collectors. PCGS has certified only four at the offered grade with an incremental five in AU58. Intermixed copper-gold shades are more concentrated on the obverse periphery while the reverse is ever so lightly toned. This piece exhibit brilliant frosted luster and swirling cartwheels under a light source. A 10x reveals faint obverse field micro-lines that precludes a full Choice quality rating. Strike is nearly complete with a touch of definition weakness at the top of Liberty's head. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-2004) holder. December 1969
