They say that good things come in small boxes and that is certainly the case for this 1903 proof dime that is housed in an ANACS old white holder. Under a bright light, this proof strike presents watery mirrors along with aquamarine-gold reflectance on the obverse and incremental rose shades on the reverse. When handling early proofs, I always check for the presence of hairlines, which play an important part of the grading. The new Lakeland Collection example has perfect surfaces and is completely hairline free at the PF64 level. December 1969
