$10600 		CSA Restrike, Crusty Surfaces, Near-Gem Original, Newtown Collection. The CSA restrikes began life as regular issue 1861 obverse dated half dollars, and were later overstruck, with the reverse die used to coin the four known Confederate half dollars. Many of these pieces have a flat, "pancake" look, due to the overstrike, but this CAC-approved example retains a well-defined obverse. Crusty toning reveals patches of electric blue on the obverse, while the reverse exhibits deep olive, gray and gold patina. Mintage of CSA restrike half was 500 coins, and these have been popular with substantial collector interest for Civil War issues. This is a choice example that was previously sold by GFRC Online Auctions during early 2021. Now being released by the Newtown Collection.
