The low-mintage, 1879-1890 runs are well known to Liberty Seated half and quarter dollar enthusiasts, and this 12-coin group might easily stand on its own as a "set within a set." The present example, from the inaugural year of this run, presents a thick skin of smoky grey patina with sea-green highlights in the protected areas. Steely, frosted luster creates swirling cartwheels, and the eye appeal is compelling. Stars are sharply impressed, while a few of the feathers on the eagle's left leg are soft. The CAC census notes 79 examples in all grades, with 30 coins finer. The CAC price guide is $4,120. Housed in PCGS Gen 5.0 (2015) Dupont hologram holder with CAC approval.
