$2550 		Near-Gem Original, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection.. Delicate rose-russet patina graces both sides of this high-grade San Francisco piece. Eroded dies produce satiny, marbled luster with vibrant cartwheels, and the eye appeal is compelling. F-102, with an obverse die crack at STATES and another on the reverse, to the lower right. Well-struck, with some softness at the head. The Fortin web-book rates the Above Wreath variety as more challenging than the Below Wreath style, and the CAC census agrees with this opinion, reporting 18 coins for this variety, vs. 27 for the mintmark-below placement. The CAC price guide may be $749 which is too low as the last two GFRC Online Auctions MS64 examples have realized $1650 and $2075. Housed in a PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-2004) holder with CAC approval.
