With a mintage of under one million, the 1861-S date is in the middle of the pack for Civil War era issues in terms of scarity but definitely more difficult than its 1861 and 1861-O counterparts. This WB-6 example offers medium gray surfaces along with light speckled ebony. The reverse is more heavily toned along with "dirt" being present on the lower left devices. The lightly struck stars are consistent with the die pairing. Accurately graded and housed in PCGS Gen 5.0 (2015) holder. December 1969
