 Choice $600 Near-Gem Original, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection.. Researching the 1878 Philadelphia date was a challenge given the scarcity of the Type 1 reverse examples and the many Type 2 reverse die pairings. I did my best to locate the best possible examples of each variety including this Type 2 F-106. The distinctive obverse die defect on Liberty's lower gown is readily apparent on the web-book plate. Granular frosted luster originates from unquestionably original surfaces. Semi-transparent rose-gold toning covers the reverse while the obverse has hues that are closer to tan and yellow. The obverse peripheral ring toning adds a nice visual touch. This lot will also continue to be the F-106 web-book plate coin for years to come. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.3 (2005) holder.
