$3900 		Low Mintage Date, Steely-Frosted Luster, Honey-Gold, Fully Choice. The 1886 Philadelphia $2.5 gold issue saw only 4,000 piece struck with most survivors being certified within the AU grades. The PCGS population summary reports 91 example in all AU grades. In Mint State, the population peaks at the MS62 level with a sharp drop in full choice to near-gem. This newly consigned lot is accurately graded and fully choice with a trip to CAC but without scoring a green bean. The submission basis were the undisturbed fields that are lightly mirrored with the resulting reflective luster under a bright light along with swirling cartwheels. A fully executed strike on a honey-gold planchet further adds to the charm. Given my belief that this lot was consistent with CAC approval standards, the premium nature should be apparent without a premium offer price. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder. December 1969
