 Choice $2500 Rare Grade, Satiny Luster, Speckled Ebony-Rose, City By The Bay Collection. Low Civil War era San Francisco mintages continued during 1868 with only 260,000 pieces struck. As with all issue from 1861 through 1868, the appearance of Mint State examples is noteworthy in today's market. PCGS has certified only 6 at the MS63 level. This example features satiny luster which is typical of the issue given heavily worn dies and metal flow lines into the denticles. Faint ebony-rose speckled toning is evident on the obverse while the less so with faint gold. Strike is complete, though not bold, again consistent with the issue and die state.
