The 1849-O F-101 obverse features the same die punch characteristics for all 1849 dated dies, namely a defect that joins the tail and loop of the 9. Strike weakness for the F-101 die pairing is the rule with fully struck examples being prohibitively rare, if they exist. The Large O is punched at an oblique angle into the die and is positioned right and high. This die exhibits progressive die cracking with a crack through A(M)ERICA being noted on this Massachusetts Collection example. Crusty coin gray surfaces present embedded olive shades during bright light assessment. A strictly original and choice example at grade. Fairly priced at the CAC price guide.
