Choice $1500 Gem Original, Island City Collection.. Production of one-dollar gold pieces fell drastically following the onset of the Civil War and never truly recovered. Annual mintages in the thousands are typical, and the Guide Book lists a long string of four-figure production levels. Even though somewhat available given higher than average survival rates, the allure of a low mintage figure remains compelling. This example exhibits frosty yellow-orange color with the lightest patina at the rims. CAC notes 122 pieces total, with 105 coins finer, and assigns a value of $1,580 in MS64.
