 Original $1200 New April 10! Popular Reverse of 1838 Type Coin, Light Gray, Steely Fields, New Orleans Collection. Consignor Price Reduction. The New Orleans Collection has released an example of the popular 1840 New Orleans struck half with a leftover bust era reverse die that lacks a mintmark. The reverse was previously employed for striking Reeded Edge design coinage during 1839 where the mintmark was placed on the obverse. Demand is always high for this issue since required for both a Liberty Seated half dollar date and mintmark set along with early coinage type sets. This survivor features even light gray surfaces with golden highlights. The characteristic die crack from the arrow feathers to HAL(F) is present and visible in the images. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder.
