A choice original example of an 1848 Dahlonega quarter eagle strike with a small mintage of 13,771. At the AU50 grade level, the PCGS population stands at 25 pieces. This lovely piece was placed into a New York City Collection via the Osprey Collection. The 1848-D quarter eagle makes an ideal type coin as one of the better dates struck at the Dahlonega. Surfaces and luster is also above average. The offered example has a lightly mirrored obverse and frosty reverse. Coloring is rose gold with stronger rose hues on the obverse. Marks are to a minimum with none to discuss. Housed in a PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder with CAC approval and ready to fill the Dahlonega quarter eagle slot in a type set. December 1969
