Rare in Mint State, Pewter-Gray, Satiny Luster, Typical Strike, CAC Approved. 1923 San Francisco struck Buffalo nickels are a tough date which become rare in Mint State given popularity and the number of collectors pursuing the series. This Summer Baltimore new purchase presents gorgeous toning that is best described as pewter-gray while a bright light accentuates rose hues. This is a pretty piece. The 1923-S date is also infamous for having poor reverse strikes with flat devices. This example is typical with a partial horn, missing head details, and a flat mound. This piece was struck from eroded dies and thus present lovely satiny luster. A 20th century better date with a good story. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder with CAC approval. December 1969
