Choice $575 New May 1! Historically Scarce San Francisco Date, Fresh CAC Approval, Lightly Mirrored, Untoned. Scenic Lakeview Collection. During the early 1900s, the 1886-S was one of the Morgan rarities in Mint State. Over time, a moderate supply of coins were released from San Francisco mint storage, thus increasing availability. There are suggestions that hundreds of thousands were melted under the 1918 Pittman Act provisions, thought never verified. This date remains scarce today with partially mirrored examples being known at the choice Mint State grades. This Scenic Lakeview offering exhibits a partially mirrored obverse, with the reverse less so. The primary focal area is minimally abraded given the conservative grade. As a result, this piece appeared to be a strong CAC candidate and was approved during a recent GFRC submission. The CAC price guide currently stands at $600 at the MS61 grade level.
