Seated half dollar collectors who may wish to take up a substantial die variety challenge might consider the 1842 and 1843 Philadelphia issues given their propensity for cracked and fully shattered reverse dies. This 1842 Medium Date WB-14 could easily be included in this project as the reverse die cracks are completely consistent with the illustration in Bugert's Register of Liberty Seated Half Dollar Varieties, Volume V. This example offers thick frosted luster with subtle golden hues and a hammered strike. A check of the GFRC Sales Archive revealed only WB-14 examples handled since inception.
