Choice $3550 Challenging San Francisco Date, Frosty White Luster, Accurately Graded, Choice Overall, Scenic Lakeview Collection. 1896 San Francisco struck Morgan dollars saw limited release in bag or roll quantities. Q. David Bowers estimates that about half of the total mintage was melted under the 1918 Pittman Act. As a result, this date is quite scarce at the offered grade and becomes rare at higher Mint State levels. A new GFRC client turned consignor is releasing this frosty white example that has been accurately graded and warrants a GFRC choice quality rating. Tightly textured granular mint frost is consistent on both sides with moderate cartwheel rotations under a bright light. The obverse has abrasions on the cheek and adjacent field consistent with the certified grade. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2023) holder.
