Choice $535 Steely-Frosted Luster, Pewter-Aquamarine Patina, Near-Gem Original, Wicker Park Collection. I continue to be amazed at the low Barber quarter populations in Mint State. Case in point is this 1901 example that is yet another release from the Wicker Park Collection. Though close to 9 million were struck, PCGS has only certified 176 in the collectible MS63 through MS65 grades. Above those grades, this common date is rare in superb Mint State. Immediately available is this near-gem with steely-frosted luster and continuous pewter aquamarine-gold toning. The surfaces are pristine and entirely unabraded. I could see this lot being purchased by an experienced numismatist and dipped towards securing a gem certification as the thick patina does mute some of the luster.
