$2850 		Low Mintage Issue, Mirrored Surfaces, Near-Gem Original, CAC Approved. The later date Type 3 gold dollars are well known for their low mintages. Only 3,000 examples were struck during 1878 with the date being considered underrated in full gem. This example, from an old time collection, warrants attention for its mirrored fields and sharp reflectivity under a bright light. The coloration is an even honey gold while the strike is deeply impressed. David Akers notes that "Most Uncs that I have seen were "scuffy" with 1878 in full gem being seldom encountered.
