The 1858 issue begins a long run of rare low mintage Philadelphia Mint half eagles. Mintage is 15,136 with a low survival rate in all grades. At the offered VF30 grade, the PCGS population stands at a meager 2 pieces with this example housed in PCGS Gen 3.0 (1990-1993) old green holder as a bonus. Surfaces are well preserved with the obverse still retaining lightly mirrored fields and residual reflectivity under a bright light. Both sides provide undisturbed viewing as the fields are smooth with ample luster. A premium example that warrants considered.
