 Choice $4100 Mint Error, Obverse Planchet Delamination, Choice Original, Flashy Cartwheel Luster, Undergraded, Oregon Beaver Collection. Consignor Price Reduction - Definitely undergraded at its currently assigned AU55 grade with MS61/MS62 being more appropriate. Both obverse and reverse are covered with light golden patination with bright light exposure stimulating gorgeous frosted cartwheel luster. Other than the upper obverse delamination, this lovely half has no blemishes whatsoever. Strike is crisply executed with all motifs highly detailed other than star 7 which might be related to the planchet defect. Severe obverse planchet delamination is visible from Liberty's head moving right through the cap and into star 9. The lamination issue is well illustrated by the GFRC images. 1856 San Francisco half dolar strikes in Mint State jump into the five figures with only seven graded at PCGS. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.0 (1998-2002) holder with Mint Error, Lamination Flap Obv listed on the label. A marvelous offering of a special numismatic conversation piece.
