Rare Date in Circulated Grades, Deep Gray-Blue Toning, Well Preserved. Consignor Price Reduction - Mintage for the 1863 Seated dollar is reported at 27,200 pieces, but little else is known about their Mint dispersion and survival. Q. David Bowers goes into extensive detail on the release possibilities on the PCGS website and initially points to Walter Breen's conclusion that most were part of the export trade to Latin American and East India. If only this example could speak and recite its travels as clearly circulated. A deep gray patina presents a partial circulated cameo appearance on the obverse while the reverse is toned a continuous gunmetal blue-gray. Under a 10x, the obverse has a few light bag marks where the edge reeding of another dollar coin was in contact with the surface. A few ancient lines are noted in the upper left reverse field and fully toned. The overall eye appeal is top notch and warrants a GFRC-Choice quality rating. Housed in new large font NGC holder.
