Original $1600 Doubled Die Reverse, Top 100 Varieties, Original Patina, Indiana Collection. A spectacular doubled die error on the reverse of an 1872 dime was discovered by Dave Thomas during April 1999 and published in the Gobrecht Journal by Tom DeLorey in July 2003. The reverse die was hubbed twice with the second hubbing being rotated approximately 175 degrees from the initial hubbing. After being published, the 1872 F-105 was included in the Top 100 Varieties set given its status as a major doubled die event. The Indiana Collection has released a solidly original example with the usual strike characteristic for the die pairing. Under a bright light, the fields fall in to the steely realm with residual reflectivity. The obverse is toned an even light coin gray while the reverse is layered with aquamarine and rose. A few faint marks are noted on Liberty's head and above the reverse denomination. Higher grade examples of this variety are infrequently seen, therefore this is an opportunity for the die variety collectors in the community. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder.
