By now, the Liberty Seated community should understand that the 1838 "Small Stars" half dime is not a date punch size variety, but rather the product of a heavily rusted obverse die with reduced star outlines due to die lapping. This is a crusty example with natural coin gray patina that is thicker on the reverse. The lighter obverse toning provides for soft satiny luster to radiate. This is a classic Small Stars with heavy die rust and the die crack from the right facing arm to star 13. The surfaces are unabraded with the usual reverse die clashing. Housed in new large font NGC holder.
