Locating 1842, 1843 and 1845 New Orleans struck dimes in choice AU or better is a multi-year challenge. New Orleans mint coinage circulated heavily in the deep south with surviving choice. This 1842-O example brings exceptional eye appeal. Surfaces are strictly original with semi transparent olive-gray on the obverse and bullseye gold and blue toning rings that frame a rose-gray center. Under bright light, the residual luster is readily apparent and exposes all rainbow colors. Strike is complete with rounded stars and complete veins on the reverse wreath leaves.
