$1950 		New August 23! Key With Stars Date, Choice Original, Massachusetts Collection.. 1846 Philadelphia strikes are recognized as being the key date for the With Stars design type. Mintage is only 31,300 with most surviving examples being in lower circulated grades. This date is prohibitively rare in Mint State with two examples known, therefore collectors are left with choice circulated examples as viable options for completing a date and mintmark set. This lot was sold into the Massachusetts project during November 2017 and now returns. Steely fields are overlaid with a natural coin gray patina with light crusty characteristics. The surfaces are very well preserved and unabraded. A superior example at the certified grade that warrants serious consideration at its reserve. The CAC price guide is presently $2400 as reference. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder with CAC approval. PCGS #4588.
